In 1983, Armand Ferrucci founded the Road Island Red Bus Company in Johnston, R.I. to serve the Greater Rhode Island and Southern New England charter bus markets. The company grew to a fleet of 20 vehicles offering a variety of transportation options ranging from full size motorcoaches and limousines to VIP corporate town cars. In addition to corporate transportation, the company offered sports team transportation, and limited shuttle service within the college campus setting.
Armand’s son Anthony Ferrucci, joined the family-owned company in 1994. Over the years, his responsibilities included operations, fleet management and maintenance, human resources, and marketing.
After 20 years in the motorcoach business, the Road Island Red Bus Company was sold and a new venture undertaken.
In 2003, Brown University requested the Ferruccis to develop a proprietary campus shuttle service for its students and faculty/staff. University Shuttle, LLC was established, and the company moved its headquarters to Providence, R.I. University Shuttle developed the “safeRIDE” program for both Brown and nearby Rhode Island School of Design. With a staff of 35 drivers, the company currently maintains a fleet of 21 vehicles carrying 6,000 passengers per week on a fixed-route and on-call basis.
In 2007, Shuttle Logistics, a wholly owned subsidiary of University Shuttle, LLC, was formed to offer transportation services to college and corporate campuses nationwide via its “Safe & Sound Shuttle Program.” Anthony, who serves as president of Shuttle Logistics, is responsible for developing both locally owned and franchise locations for the Safe & Sound program throughout the continental United States.
